My Bonsai!!!

Here are the two of my favorite Christmas gifts, but all is not well. Though I love my new plants I have not been very successful in caring for bonsai. In fact, at home I am known as the bonsai KILLER. Two bonsai trees have died due to my neglect. I am trying to change my ways. Both trees are very beautiful and I would like to keep them for a long time. This page will document their life (hopefully long life) with me.

The Tree Of Life

Tree Type: Juniper Procumbers
Tree Given by: Mom
Bought from: I don't know. It was a gift.
Age: approx 4 years old
Condition: Doing OK ??

Comments for the week (2/11/2001): There are some brown spots on the leaves now. Growing inside is stating to wear on this tree. I hope it will not die.
Comments for the week (2/03/2001): I see no changes from the last posting here. The tree is still pretty healthy.

Comments for the week: I am attempting to keep this out door bonsai alive inside my dorm room. Living in a dorm limits my outdoor locations to none. So far so good. There are no brown spots and nothing falling off the tree. It gets lots of light from the window, and I have not forgotten to water it. Life is good for this tree. I am happy with the shape of the tree right now.

The Tree of Might

Tree Type: Hawaiian Umbrella Bonsai
Tree Given by: x-girl friend
Bought from: 1-800-flowers.com
Age: approx 4 years old
Condition: Good, but could be better.

Comments for the week (2/11/2001): Doing very well. New growth all over the place!!

Comments for the week (2/03/2001): I am no longer fearing for the health of this tree. It is growing very well. Leaves still fall off but that is because the new growth has blocked the sun light from these older leaves. It is tough to decide on a shape for this tree. The natural growth pattern is OK but the tree is starting to look unorganized. I will spend some time on the net looking for ideas.

Comments for the week: This tree is very water sensitive. It grows well when the soil is nice and wet, but when that soil dries the new growth begins to wilt. The leaves on this tree, though all green, fall off very easily. I am not sure what this means, but I am sure it is not a good sign. While it looks good now the future of this tree is in doubt. Stay turned each week for up dates!
